I Can See You Outside / Two

‘I CAN SEE YOU OUTSIDE’ IS OUT NOW. ‘TWO’ IS RELEASED ON MAY 6TH

Described as a ‘social distancing love song’, I Can See You Outside is a utopian vision of an end to the rat race and partisan politics, set to disco grooves and drum tracks that recall the high watermarks of electro-pop.

The video evokes a futuristic alternative reality in the North East of England. “The idea was to have a video which felt like it happened on the same day as the Token one, but in a parallel universe, or maybe a dream.” explains Sarah Blackwood, ”There are little details inserted to reward the observant: The chess board is a recreation of the game status in 2001: A Space Odyssey, for instance. Gateshead's Trinity Square car park makes an appearance, as it often does in our dreams.”

Stephen Hague, frequent producer of Dubstar touchstones New Order and Pet Shop Boys, returns for the first time since 1997 for a record of full-spectrum megapop, swooning synthesised orchestras, acutely observed kitchen sink dramas, and outright bangers. A mere 26 years since Stars and Not So Manic Now announced them as something disturbing and different in the pop firmament, Dubstar are themselves again – only more so.

‘Two’ will be released on May 6th. The band store has signed stuff, exclusive merchandise (“Tea For Two” / “Tee For Two”, anyone?), and exclusive bundles, including a limited edition flexi disc with a previously unreleased song called “I Held The Records". There’s a special coloured vinyl for independent retail. There’s a double CD, with 9 tracks on CD2, including some previously unreleased remixes and extended mixes, and some of the recent ones appearing on CD for the first time. Rough Trade East will have a short acoustic performance on the day of release, followed by a Q&A with the legendary Pete Paphides.
